Why dispose of refillable ink cartridges?
In Europe, over 350 million ink cartridges are used every year, including more than 80 million in France. Used ink cartridges are made up of materials that are harmful to the environment, as they contain ink residues, non-biodegradable plastics, iron oxide and aluminum, and many other materials.
In 2006, France recycled just 20% of toner cartridges, compared with 55% in the USA and 35% in Germany, the UK and the Netherlands! However, at least 50% of ink cartridges can be recycled, and some components (such as rollers or plastic casings) can be used up to 3-4 times. The rest can be improved in other areas.
Join the growing number of remanufactured ink cartridge users:
Already in Europe in 2007:
- 25% toner cartridge / laser toner (i.e. 12 million toner cartridges per year),
- 15% of inkjet cartridges (i.e. 45 million per year).
According to an independent market study, this percentage should reach 40% in 2008 (in the USA, four out of ten ink cartridges are reused).
